More than £1000 raised for Inverness woman who had her pension stolen
A FUND set up to replace money stolen from an elderly woman's pension has reached more than £1000.
The woman, who has not been named, lives in the Davis Square area of Inverness, and had her bank card stolen from her home.
It is understood that her pension was then taken from her bank account.
In response to a Facebook post about the theft, Matt Drum set up an online crowdfunding campaign yesterday afternoon.
"This is obviously very distressing for the lady and it would be nice if the local community could reimburse the sum of £200 which would take into account some compensation plus what was stolen by the nasty individual that robbed her," he said.
More than 75 people have already made a donation to the fund.
Chris Macewan, of Inverness Taxis, said it had been called on to help. He said: "We received a call at the taxi office from the police to see if we could help her out with a hamper.
"When I heard about it, I put a post on Inverness Neighbourhood Watch Facebook page to warn folk.
"I was then contacted by a local man, and he started the gofundme page for her which is now over £1000.
"The lady got a bag of goodies from staff from the Co-op in Church Street and they sent £25 cash. The Acts of Kindness Inverness and Highland sent her a care package and we sent a hamper from Inverness Taxis.
"It is great to see folk helping out."
A police spokesman said: "Officers received a report of a bank card which was stolen from within a property in the Davis Square area of Inverness at around 9.30am on Monday.
"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and officers are currently following a positive line of investigation."
