Approval for Inverness housing plan

Plans for 24 new “affordable” homes for Inverness have been approved by Highland Council.

Cairn Housing Association is behind the bid for mixed type residential units on a gap site at Willow Avenue in Slackbuie.

Cairn said in its planning statement that the Slackbuie site was bought from Tulloch Homes in 2008/09, but was delayed due to the recession and lack of access until the link road was completed.

There is a strong preference for houses to create a “robust frontage onto the spine road through the site and access to open space”.

The site is within an area of established residential properties and ongoing residential development consented or under construction and will benefit from being an integral part of this emerging neighbourhood, stated Cairn.

It is a steep sloping site, but Cairn added: “Whilst presenting both design and construction challenges, it also presents an opportunity to maximise views out of the site from a number of plots, and serve to create interesting and varied streetscapes.”

A public art entrance feature will be created at the site access.
