A CRUISE boat crew member has jumped ship to complete a swim across Loch Ness to raise thousands of pounds for local suicide prevention charity Mikeysline.

Months of open water swimming training paid off for Loch Ness by Jacobite’s Leanne Johnson, who more than exceeded her own ambitions for her monster challenge – smashing her fundraising target of £1350 and raising a total of £3184.90 which will go towards helping tackle suicide rates in the Highlands.

Leanne started her swim at Dores and crossed the width of Loch Ness, reaching the Wellington Bomber layby in one hour as temperatures in the loch dipped as low as six degrees.

“I am beyond delighted we have raised this much for such an important cause and although it was a real test of my mental and physical stamina, for me the swim was easy in comparison to the challenges faced by people suffering day in, day out from mental or physical health issues and the stigma that goes along with it,” she said.
