Dr Who star Karen Gillan lands at Monster FM
THE next generation of radio DJs in Inverness are getting ready to broadcast as Monster FM returns to the airwaves.
And joining them on air will be Dr Who assistant, Inverness lass Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond, and Inverness Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher.
Trainees on the European Social Fund-backed Radioskills project at The Moray Firth Media Trust have been granted a temporary licence by Ofcom to broadcast for 28 days from September 1.
But it’s not just the apprentice presenters who will be broadcasting. Radioskills have also been working with pupils from Charleston Academy, Inverness Royal Academy and Inverness High School, assisting them in the production of their own weekly schools programme.
Fresh from their RockNess successes, DJ Teknique and DJ Kaos Theory have accepted invitations to produce exclusive late night mixes for the station.
And the broadcast students reached for the stars and grabbed a couple in the shape of Karen Gillan and Terry Butcher, both of whom will be presenting special programmes of their own favourite music.
Moray Firth Media Trust manager Liz McIntyre said: "We can teach our trainees all the skills they need to broadcast but the enthusiasm for radio and desire to make Monster FM as good as it can be is something they themselves have brought to the project.
"They just seem to think that anything is possible, which is a great attitude to have in the creative media world – where they hope to eventually gain employment."
Broadcasting on 87.7FM and online at www.monsterfm.co.uk from September 1, Monster FM is a Restricted Service Licence (RSL) serving the Inverness area.
It is made possible through funding from The European Social Fund, Inverness Common Good Fund, Highland Council, Skills Development Scotland, MFR and MG Alba.
