A man who sparked a three-day search in the Highlands after disappearing from a weekend fishing trip has turned up safe and well.

David Mooney (43), from Paisley, went missing at Loch Cluanie, near Invergarry, at around 1.30pm on Easter Sunday.

Police issued an appeal for help in tracing him and mountain rescue teams joined the search as concerns grew for his well-being, with the disappearance described as “out of character'' by family and friends.

However, a Police Scotland statement last night confirmed Mr Mooney had been found.

It said: “Police Scotland are pleased to report that missing person David Mooney (43) who had last been seen in the Loch Cluanie, west of Invergarry area, has been traced safe and well.

“We would like to thank any persons who assisted in this inquiry.”
