ICY conditions could cause a hazard on the region's roads tonight, the Met Office has warned.

It has issued a yellow weather warning for slippery conditions, which comes into force at 6pm tonight and will remain in place until 10am on Saturday.

"A cold airmass covers northern Britain. Icy patches are expected on untreated surgaces from Friday evening onwards into early Saturday morning," said a spokesman.

"Please be aware that this could lead to some difficult driving conditions."
