Stagecoach report ‘medical emergency’ as cause for halting Black Isle bus services as heavy snow hits transport routes around Inverness and Ross-shire
A medical emergency has halted two Black Isle bus services amid a spate of cancellations and delays caused by the wintry conditions.
Stagecoach say they have had to suspend the service 26 from Avoch to Cromarty at 17:39.
The condition of the person involved is not known at this time.
The knock-on effect is that the service from Cromarty to Inverness at 18:22 is also currently suspended.
The bus operator confirmed it had taken the action after a medical emergency and has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
A spokesman for the company added: “Due to worsening weather conditions, all services across the Highlands are liable to experience major delays and short notice cancellations throughout the evening.”
Deteriorating weather and “whiteout conditions” has forced the firm to terminate the Inverness to Tomich service 17 at Drumnadrochit.
Service 28 from Dingwall to Inverness at 1647 was also unable to operate, while service 27 is unable to reach bus stops along Docharty and Tulloch.
The cancellations also affected services by Loch Ness with “deteriorating weather” blamed for cancellation of service 16 from Inverness to Foyers at 1740, as well as the return trip from Foyers to Inverness at 1838..
The spokesman stressed: “The safety of our drivers and passengers is paramount. The weather is closing in and causing delays everywhere.”
“Driver displacement” was also blamed for delays to service 12 from Elgin to Inverness at 17:10, while service 25A from Inverness to Tain via Dingwall at 1820 departed Inverness with a delay up to 45 minutes.
Passengers have been warned that disruption is certain to hit more services later this evening.
