A bus mechanic has been fined £580 and banned from driving for three years after admitting his second drink-driving offence.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard Andrew Sumner (30), of Ferntower Place, was driving in Barn Church Road at about 7.30pm on January 31 when he was stopped by police.

A breath test revealed he was just over the 22mcg limit at 29mcg of alcohol in his system.

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said his client made a misjudgement which he “bitterly regrets”.

He added: “He had two alcoholic drinks while having lunch with friends and thought he would be safe to drive by the evening.”
