A MAN who went into the Tesco store at Inshes and left without paying for meat and a box set of DVDs worth £196 has been ordered to carry out unpaid work for the community.

Jonathon Sinclair (34) took a trolley into the store with another man on August 5.

Depute fiscal Susan Love said the two men entered the store at 11.45pm separately and the other man was seen putting a box set of DVDs worth £60 into the trolley. Sinclair then went round to the meat counter and placed steaks worth £136 into the trolley.

She added: “At 11.50pm he is seen leaving the front door due to the alarm sounding and security staff were alerted, but he left without paying.”

She said the goods were never recovered and Sinclair, of Aitchcournie, Baron Taylor’s Street, was later traced at home and taken to Burnett Road Police Station.

Solicitor Willie Young said Sinclair, who admitted the offence, was under the influence of drugs and fell into the company of another person who was living in the same supported accommodation.

“He’s embarrassed that he allowed himself to become involved in this enterprise,” he told the court.

“Stealing is not his thing.”

Mr Young said his client was now stable on a methadone programme.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald ordered Sinclair to carry out 66 hours of unpaid work.
