A nursing home near Inverness has been hit by a mass outbreak of Covid-19 cases.

NHS Highland has been notified of 35 infection cases in all at the independent Meallmore Lodge care home near Daviot, seven miles south of the city.

They include 17 residents and 18 members of staff.

NHS Highland’s Health Protection Team (HPT) is working with health and social care colleagues, local community nursing teams and local GPs, to prevent any further spread of the virus within the care home and the wider community.

As part of this work, the HPT is carrying out enhanced monitoring of staff and residents.

An NHS Highland spokesperson said: “NHS Highland can confirm that the residents at Meallmore Lodge have completed the first round of COVID-19 vaccinations.

“Protection for an individual following vaccination may take two or more weeks to develop and the extent to which vaccination prevents spread of COVID-19 is still unclear.

“Contact tracing has been undertaken with the affected staff members and all cases are isolating in keeping with national guidance.

“Outbreak control measures are in place and the required infection, prevention and control measures have been reinforced.”

An NHS Highland support team has also been made available to assist the owners of the home.
