Marmen Quartet prepares to delight audiences in Music Nairn concert
A prizewinning group of classical musicians is performing in Nairn next week.
The Marmen Quartet will perform masterworks by Ravel, Bartók, and Mozart at Nairn Community and Arts Centre on Saturday, October 26 at 7.30pm as part of the Music Nairn 2024/24 concert series.
Formed in 2013 at the Royal College of Music, the ensemble has held the Guildhall School of Music String Quartet Fellowship and trained with mentors at the Hochschule für Musik in Hannover and in London.
Comprising Johannes Marmen (violin), Laia Valentin Braun (violin), Bryony Gibson-Cornish (viola), and Sinead O’Halloran (cello), the quartet has won accolades including first prizes at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition and the Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2019, where they also received the Haydn and Canadian Commission prizes.
Other achievements include winning the Royal Overseas League Competition in 2018 and receiving awards at the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition.
Marmen has previously played leading European venues such as Wigmore Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, and Stockholm Konserthuset, and has performed at the BBC Proms.
The Nairn programme will feature masterpieces including Ravel’s String Quartet, Bartók’s String Quartet No. 3, and Mozart’s String Quartet in C major K465 'Dissonance'.

Music Nairn promotes classical music. The venue tiered seating for over 150 and maximum capacity of 300.
