An Inverness man with a previous conviction for killing his brother by stabbing him on the leg was again found by police carrying a knife.

Gary Fraser, of Culduthel Park, Inverness had been jailed in 2016 for eight years and since then had been back in court for other knife offences.

He appeared by video link before Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald and the 44-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in Fairfield Road on March 27, 2024.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Inverness Sheriff Court that Fraser was arrested after police went to the address in relation to a drugs supply incident.

"Fraser went to the door and began to shout for the householder,” he said.

"He was unsteady on his feet and officers suspected he may have drugs and searched him. They found a kitchen knife with a four-inch serrated blade.

"He told officers: 'It's no mine, I just found it.'“

Defending John MacColl said: "Given his record, there will be no representations against a custodial sentence.

"His position is that it was an acquaintance who had the knife. He disposed of it and my client picked it up. It was a stupid thing to do given his record."

Sheriff Macdonald jailed Fraser for eight months, backdated to March 27 this year.
