Inverness Sheriff Court heard a man assaulted his partner by pulling her to the ground and kicking her on the body at their home.

Reece Taylor (21) of the city’s Dunabban Road admitted committing the offence on September 13.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson was told the incident had happened at 12.30am when the couple were at home.

Depute fiscal Martina Eastwood said that Taylor had been drinking prior to the incident.

His partner had gone to bed, she said, but they subsequently had an argument.

The woman had grabbed his phone from him during the course of the row.

Taylor was trying to get it back and kicked out with his bare foot.

Defence solicitor Natalie Paterson told the court that Taylor had spent 33 days in custody in connection with the incident.

She said her client did not normally drink.

“She took hold of his phone and he went to kick the phone out of her hand and he kicked her on the body,” she said.

Taylor also admitted breaching a previously imposed community payback order.

Ms Paterson said that Taylor was working as a delivery driver while also attending college and helping look after his and his partner’s child and had failed to keep some appointments connected with that order.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson acknowledged there were “only 24 hours in the day” but added: “While I accept he was doing to too much he needs to prioritise.”

She deferred sentence for reports until November 13.
