Gordon struck several blows to the man's head before police arrived to arrest him following an anonymous call to report the incident.
Sheriff Gary Aitken noted that Gordon was currently on a drug treatment and testing order (DTTO).
Defending, Patrick O'Dea confirmed said: "He has significantly reduced his drug use."
Sheriff Aitken placed Gordon on another DTTO to run alongside and beyond his current one.
