A party turned violent when an Inverness man was asked to leave having arrived after drinking.

Words were exchanged between Ryan Simpson, of Mackay Road, and his victim Cameron Macfadyen in a house in Alness on February 10. Then Simpson (24) hit Mr Macfadyen with a bottle.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told by fiscal depute Allison Young that the casualty was taken to hospital. He suffered a swollen eye.

Simpson admitted assault to injury.

Defence solicitor Graham Mann said: “He was invited to the party up to the point he was no longer welcome as he had been drinking beforehand. It was an impulsive reaction to something relatively minor and didn’t develop into anything more serious. While he has been on remand, he has sought help for his drinking and mental health problems.”

Simpson, who also admitted prior convictions, was jailed for a year, backdated to February 11.
