A MAN has been banned from the roads after arguing with police officers then getting behind the wheel of his car while suspected to be under the influence.

Curtis Durose (29) admitted threatening and abusive behaviour, assaulting a police officer and failing to provide a breath sample to confirm if he was over the drink-driving limit.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that he had appeared at Burnett Road Police Station in Inverness demanding to speak to a sergeant at around 3.30pm on December 6, 2021.

He repeatedly shouted, swore, acted in an aggressive manner and made threats of violence towards officers.

He also assaulted one officer by striking him with his knees and scratching his head with his fingernails.

After refusing to leave the station he was escorted from the building and was seen getting into a vehicle.

Fiscal depute Robyn Macleod said: “Due to his behaviour and the smell of alcohol he was stopped by police.

“At 4pm the accused was arrested for threatening and abusive behaviour.

“He was cautioned and charged, to which he made no reply. At 6.10pm the accused failed to give a breath test and refused to exit his cell.”

Sheriff Gary Aitken disqualified Durose, of Anderson Street, Inverness, from driving for 12 months and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

The sheriff stated that this was a direct alternative to custody.
