Macdonald, who was a first offender, had admitted assaulting the woman in a house in the Inshes area of the city on August 19 last year by kissing her on the shoulder and breast, and touching her private parts.

Defending, Marc Dickson told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: "He bitterly regrets his involvement in this."

The sheriff placed Macdonald under social work supervision for a year and on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a similar period.

She told him: "This was appalling behaviour and I do not know why you thought you could do this. You caused significant distress and hurt and you have to learn from this."
