Man to stand trial for attempted murder in Inverness

An accused is to stand trial charged with trying to kill a man – including hitting him on the head with a microwave oven.
William Williamson is accused of attacking another man at a flat in Inverness on March 5.
Prosecutors claim the 23 year-old repeatedly punched his victim, bit him on the ear and hit him with a metal bar.
The attempted murder charge further alleges Williamson kicked and stamped on the man as well as striking him on the head with the microwave.
And it is further claimed the victim was also assaulted with a glass plate and stabbed with a "sharp implement", all to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment as well as to the danger of his life.
It is also claimed Williamson stole a rucksack from the man.
The case called for a hearing today at the High Court in Glasgow, where Williamson denied the charge.
Lady Stacey fixed a trial due to begin on January 14 in Inverness.
