A man has been taken to hospital suffering from slight smoke inhalation following a house fire in Inverness.

The alarm was raised at 6.50pm yesterday and two fire crews from the city were sent to the scene in Abbey Court.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman described the blaze as a "small fire in the kitchen" caused by unattended cooking.

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to tackle the fire which was extinguished by 7.09pm.

The spokesman confirmed that an adult male was left in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service but his injuries were not thought to be serious.
