Inverness man swore at police officers – 23-year-old William Williamson told social workers he was being 'stupid' after the alcohol and drug fuelled tirade

An Inverness man told social workers he was being “stupid” after an alcohol and drug fuelled tirade towards police.
William Williamson (23), described as an Inverness prisoner, appeared for sentence after it was deferred for a background report.
He had admitted, previously at Inverness Sheriff Court, threatening behaviour and resisting arrest at a property in Buckie on September 19, 2020.
Fiscal depute Ruraidh Allison told Sheriff Gary Aitken that police had been called to the address on another matter and were met “with hostility” by Williamson and another.
“The door was slammed on them so they tried to converse with him through a window,” Mr Allison added.
He said that Williamson then shouted abuse at them and repeatedly swore at them. When arrested, he attempted to run away from officers.
Defence solicitor John MacColl said: “He is on remand for an appearance at a higher court.
“He had been drinking heavily. The report which is extremely well written, refers to him describing himself as being stupid.
“He is an intelligent young man but expects to be in custody for the foreseeable future before the case is eventually called. However he hopes to make a life for himself when he is released.”
Sheriff Aitken decided to fine Williamson a total of £1600 with no time to pay. So he will serve a period of 45 days in prison as a sentence for these offences, although he is on remand.
