A man had to be taken to hospital after admitting to swallowing heroin on an Inverness street.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard police attended at the city's Huntly Place on Boxing Day last year after reports of drug dealing in a flat there.

Depute fiscal Karen Aitken said police drove past the flat and saw Jonathon Sinclair exit the premises.

"They saw him move his hand from his jacket to his mouth," she said. "They took hold of him and he was instructed to spit out what he had in his mouth."

But Sinclair (34) of Baron Taylor's Street, Inverness, continued to try and swallow before he began choking then vomiting.

The fiscal said he swallowed the item and then told police it was heroin.

He was taken to Raigmore Hospital where he was monitored for eight hours.

Sinclair admitted obstructing the police by swallowing the drug.

Sentence was deferred for reports until November 13.
