A shoplifter returned to a supermarket five days after stealing alcohol to take more.

Atif Baig, of Union Street, Inverness, appeared by video link from Barlinnie Prison to admit three charges of theft and two of breaches of a bail curfew. Inverness Sheriff Court was told that he was also being held by the UK’s immigration officials.

He admitted stealing from Aldi on May 18 and May 23 last year. He also admitted stealing cosmetics and a watch from Debenhams on October 1, 2020.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans told Sheriff Sara Matheson that Baig (32) was currently on a community payback order and a background report would be required. Sentence was deferred until September 28.
