A man has been jailed for 10 weeks after stealing alcohol from an Inverness supermarket.

But Andrew Sanders (43), who had been remanded in custody pending a report, was released immediately as his sentence was backdated to February 14.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Sanders, of Milnafua, admitted stealing three bottles of vodka on June 4 last year from the Tesco store in Dores Road.

He also admitted behaving in a threatening manner in the city’s Eastgate Shopping Centre on February 13 this year by challenging two police officers to fight.
