Inverness man is jailed for six months after spitting in woman's face

A 44-YEAR-OLD Inverness man has been jailed for six months after spitting on a woman’s face.

The incident happened in Church Street, Inverness on July 19, as Paul Horne’s 26-year-old girlfriend Olivia Mackay was asking people for money just before 10pm.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Inverness Sheriff Court that the woman was walking from the direction of The Kings Highway/Weatherspoon when Mackay approached her.

“An argument between the two women ensued, and Horne approached to support his girlfriend,” Mr Weir said.

“He then spat directly in the face of the other woman, making contact with her nose, eyes and mouth.

“In reaction to this, the woman slapped him on the face once.”

Horne was arrested after a CCTV operator told police.

When charged with assault, Horne claimed that he was punched in the face by the woman.

He was remanded in custody after a petition appearance and had his sentence backdated to July 20.
