An unprovoked assault at Belladrum has left an Elgin man with a badly broken jaw.

Adis Delic was attacked completely at random during the three-day music festival.

In an attempt to reconstruct his jaw, surgeons have now fitted screws and three plates inside his face.

The 40-year-old is in a large amount of pain and also totally mystified.

Adis said: "I was on the phone at the time. My head was looking down to the ground when it seems someone took a run up and hit me.

"I was put down but still conscious.

"However I didn't see the person at all as it was on my blind side.

"I just wasn't expecting any form of attack because I hadn't upset or even spoken to anyone."

The assault took place at around 9.45pm on Friday, the second day of the festival which was attended by 25,000 people.

Adis was treated at the festival's first aid site before being transferred to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Here, it was discovered that both sides of his jaw had been broken.

In addition, the force of the unexpected blow had also knocked out one of his back teeth.

Adis, an offshore worker, is currently experiencing difficulties in talking.

He now also faces a long period of enforced absence until his injuries subside and he can once again put on and take off the survival suits that have to be worn while journeying to the rigs.

Adis said: "I was just trying to make my way home and ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I hope that whoever did this is caught. Otherwise I am sure he will do it again."

DC Ross Cooper, of Inverness CID, said: "This appears to have been an unprovoked attack and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"The festival site was busy at the time and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who has information that could help with our investigation.

"If you can assist then please contact us on 101, quoting reference CR/0034689/22, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
