A man has been fined £320 after an attack with a broom handle in the Tesco car park at Inverness Shopping Park.

Ryan Brodie (34) of Riverside Road, Alness, admitted assaulting Craig Robertson on November 27 last year by punching him repeatedly on the head and body and striking him repeatedly with the broom handle.

At Inverness Sheriff Court, the prosecution stated that Brodie invited Mr Robertson out of the store and then attacked him.

Mr Robertson retaliated in self defence before escaping in his car.

Defence solicitor Neil Wilson said Mr Robertson was the new partner of his client’s ex and there had been discussion of a family matter in the chance meeting before Brodie lost his temper.

He added: “He is embarrassed and ashamed.”
