A man was expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court today after he was arrested and charged in connection with the serious sexual assault of a teenager in Inverness.

The incident occurred next to the River Ness on Saturday evening.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the serious sexual assault of a teenager near the River Ness in Inverness on the evening of Saturday, September 7.

“He is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday, September 9.”

A section of the riverside at the Gathering Place pier viewpoint was reportedly cordoned off by police tape for a time at the weekend and it is understood that some passers by saw a section of the pier covered by a sheet while an officer stood guard.
