Murchison, of Mackay Terrace, Avoch, was found guilty of assault and threatening or abusive behaviour, with both being aggravated by involving abuse of a partner or ex-partner.

Sheriff Bobby Frazer ordered Murchison to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work over 15 months and to participate in a domestic violence course alongside an Action for Children SMART Recovery course.

Sheriff Frazer said: “It must be said that domestic violence of any kind is intolerable. You have to be accountable for your actions. There is absolutely no excuse for this behaviour.”

Murchsion’s defence solicitor, Michael Chapman said: “He no longer has contact with the complainer. He has demonstrated insight into the use of alcohol on his behaviour and the impact.”
