Inverness man admits racially-aggravated assault in street

A 28-year-old Inverness man who attacked a pedestrian in a racially-aggravated assault will be sentenced next month alongside two other cases, one of which was committed on the same day.

Michael Stewart, of Bridgeview Drive, Inverness appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted striking his victim on the head and body in Telford Road on May 21, 2023.

His lawyer Willie Young successfully asked Sheriff Ian Cruickshank to defer sentence until June 12 to allow all three cases to be dealt with at the same time. Sentence had been deferred on those two cases for a drug treatment and testing order assessment.
