An Inverness man now living on the Isle of Lewis had sentence deferred until December 10 for a background report and an assessment for a domestic offender's rehabilitation programme after admitting assaulting his partner.

Michael MacBeath, of Island Road, Stornoway did not appear personally at Inverness Sheriff Court but his solicitor advocate Clare Russell tendered a guilty plea on his behalf but added that it was "under provocation".

He admitted that on July 26 last year at a house in Culduthel Mains Circle, he assaulted the woman by punching her on the head; pushing her on the body before cornering her and seizing her by the throat.

The charge added that MacBeath applied pressure to her neck which restricted her breathing, all to her injury. He was on bail at the time.
