POLICE are investigating 'malicious' damage to a fence which allowed sheep to escape a field on the Black Isle.

Officers have appealed for witnesses who may have seen anyone or any vehicles acting suspicious around Cullicudden area sometime between February 18 and 20.

Although the cut fence allowed animals to escape, not livestock were reported missing of stolen.

Constable Andrew Fraser said: "We are asking for the public's help to identify those responsible for the malicious damage.

"As the field is next to a busy road, there could have been serious consequences for motorists. There is also the possiblity of someone intending to steal livestock.

"I would ask members of the community to be vigilante and report any suspicious activity."

"Anyone who has information to call police in Dingwall on 101, quoting incident 3639 of February 20, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
