Longman landfill, Foyers power station and Invergarry worker accommodation developments in the pipeline through formal launch of the planning permission process for a trio of Great Glen developments
Developers are to apply for planning permission for a trio of major projects at the Longman landfill site, Foyers power station and accomodation for hundreds of workers near Invergarry.
Highland Council has received proposals of application notice (PAN) which formalises that planning permission for the three developments is being sought.
With a PAN councillors on the south planning committee will be asked to raise questions but express no view nor determine anything until the full application is delivered.
The Longman Landfill site
The first at the Longman comes from Highland Council itself as part of a phased approach to redevelopment of the landfill site.
To do that it is anticipated that a “platforming construction operation” will need an access road, drainage, site remediation, civil engineering and services and utilities works.
The development will also need almost 100,000 m3 of materials to be brought in.
Invergarry temporary workers site
Balfour Beatty is consulting the local authority on plans to create a temporary workers’ site at Glen Mor for up to 360 staff.
The facility will accommodate staff involved in upgrading the transmission network between Fort Augustus and Skye.
Details from the PAN are scant but the online consultation provided more details about the upgrade to the site that currently can accommodate up to 25 staff.
In the initial phase Balfour Beatty wants to expand the existing hardstanding to enable up to 100 workers with welfare facilities including offices, catering, lounge, fitness, laundry and so on to be accommodated over two storeys.
The final layout will see an expansion for up to 360 workers, a car park area/materials yard and using the existing timber yard area as a repairs and maintenance yard.
Foyers Power Station
SSEN Transmission has proposed extending the switching station – which manages the flow of electricity from the site – at Foyers Power Station on Loch Ness.
That entails bringing in plant and infrastructure, ancillary facilities, laydown and work compound areas, an access road, drainage and landscape works; and extension to existing substation platform area at Foyers.
