GOLF'S world number one Luke Donald has been crowned the new Barclays Scottish Open champion.

The Englishman finished the third and final round at Castle Stuart on 19 under par overall - four shots ahead of his nearest rival.

Donald carded a nine under par final round of 63 to take the title and the £500,000 prize.

Donald became the fifth Englishman to take the Scottish Open title, although there was a Scottish influence upon his victory at Castle Stuart.

"My dad was born in Stranraer, so I've got a little bit of Scottish blood in me," said Donald, who sported tartan trousers during the final round of play.

"I've had some good experiences up in this part of the world after being in the winning Walker Cup team at Nairn and now this.

"It's a victory that like the one at Nairn, will live in my memory for a long time."

Sweden's Fredrik Andersson Hed finished second on 15 under par overall, after shooting a 10 under par final round.

Seven players tied for third - on 14 under par overall - including the highest finishing Scotsman, Scott Jamieson.

Other notable stars ended the tournament further off the pace with world number two Lee Westwood on 12 under, defending champion Edoardo Molinari on eight under and Scot Colin Montgomerie on 10 under.
