An Inverness project providing vital food supplies for vulnerable people has been given an £800 funding boost.

Inverness Foodstuff received the donation from Inverness’s Lodge St Columba.

The lodge has previously given donations to the church and community-led project which was set up in 2014 with the aim of tackling food poverty and loneliness.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the project has closed its drop-in café at Ness Bank Church, but still operates a takeaway and delivery service for those facing hard times.

Lodge member and past master Sandy Goodall said they were taken aback to discover that in April this year it had provided 3604 three-course meals in Inverness.

“Normally, they would feed about 15 a day but they are now feeding about 150 a day,” he said.

Lodge members pledged £400 which was matched by the lodge itself.
