LOCH NESS MARATHON: Popular running event will see road closures in place affecting Inverness city centre and roads heading south towards Loch Ness

A POPULAR running event will be back to the shores of Loch Ness this Sunday, with restrictions in place on Highland roads planned on the day.

Several road closures and restrictions will be in place across the city centre and the southbound roads towards Loch Ness on Sunday, October 2.

The marathon is set to start on the high ground near Whitebridge on the B862 and will drop down to the banks of Loch Ness at Foyers and head through Dores and continue towards Inverness city centre, where the route will then turn to follow the River Ness until the finish line at Bught Park.

Among the roads affected are are the B862 between Fort Augustus and Inverness, the B852 between Dalcrag Bridge and Dores, and the B8082 Inverness Southern Distributor Road.

Ness Bank and Cavell Gardens Road, Ness Walk, Castle Road, Bught Road, Bishop’s Road and Ballifeary Road will also be affected.

Infirmary Bridge will be closed from 8.30am to 5pm on the day.

The southbound lane of the B862 between Fort Augustus and Inverness will see a 30mph speed limit imposed between the Holm Roundabout and the junction with the B852 at Dores between 10.15am and 4.30pm. The same lane will also see a 20mph limit set between Holm Roundabout and Ness Bank and Cavell Gardens Road starting at 9.45am and endng at 4.30pm on the day.
