A leading Highland Games by Loch Ness has delivered a cash boost to two community causes.

The Glenurquhart Highland Gathering & Games has made charitable donations to Glenurquhart Childcare Centre and Glenurquhart Care Centre, both based in Drumnadrochit.

Games chairman Iain Fulton delivered the cheques in person, visiting the childcare centre first to meet manager Sian Tembo, assistant manager Chloe Cromarty and some of the children.

The £500 donation was warmly received and will be used to upgrade their garden for the children to enjoy in warm weather like we are currently enjoying.

Mr Fulton then visited Glenurquhart Care Centre to hand over a donation of £1000 to manager Michelle Graham-Taylor, staff and service users.

The care centre plans to use these funds to upgrade their outside area and contribute towards some day trips.

Mr Fulton said: “I thought it was a real pleasure to be able to be out and about in the community supporting two cherished organisations.

“It's wonderful to be part of such a kind and welcoming community and helping to support local charities and organisations such as these is part of the Games' mission statement.

“The last few years we have been unable to provide donations due to limited funds caused by Covid and rain-induced cancellations, so it was great today to be able to recommence supporting the Glenurquhart community after one of our most successful Games on record last year.

“This year we look forward to being even bigger and better than last year as we host the first ever World Championship for female heavy events.

“It'll be great to bring international attention to our wonderful community with this, alongside our already highly competitive programme of events.”

The Games are held on the fourth Saturday of August every year at Blairbeg Park in Drumnadrochit, this year on August 23, with more information at www.lochnessgames.co.uk

The games are rated as a highlight of the Scottish Highland Games calendar, bringing together tradition, heritage, sport, and culture in a breathtaking setting, with heavyweight events like caber tossing and hammer throwing, alongside Highland dancing, piping, and competitive track events.
