A man who admitted domestic abuse against his partner was released on bail pending a background report.

Sheriff Robert Frazer also called for a restriction of liberty order assessment on Ryan McFarlane’s home in Ashers Court, Nairn.

If such an order is imposed, McFarlane (27) would have to remain at home between certain hours whilst being monitored by a tag.

McFarlane pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place between September 2021 and January this year.

Sheriff Frazer noted McFarlane had three previous similar convictions.

However, he agreed to release him on bail after hearing from defence solicitor Cecily Kingston, who said her client had an offer of a highly-paid job and also had a child to support.

She added: “He accepts the relationship is over.”

Deferring sentence until March 8, Sheriff Frazer imposed special bail conditions, prohibiting McFarlane from entering High Street, Nairn, or approaching or contacting his ex-partner.
