The Moy Country Fair is set to welcome back its legendary terrier racing event.

The event provides hilarity, competitiveness, speed and physical strength, and is not one to miss.

Host of the Moy Country Fair, Celia Mackintosh, has paid close attention to the terrier event over the years, and has participated a number of times.

She said: “My dog Robbie absolutely loved it. He got into the finals one year, but it was never about the winning. It was just so much fun and you never know quite what is going to happen.

“It’s really exciting. At the beginning, all the dogs are barking and the anticipation builds. It’s the last event each day so there’s always a big crowd of spectators.”

When Robbie passed away age 17 in 2009, Celia donated a special quaich to be presented to the overall winner of the terrier racing event in memory of him.

With her hands-on experience, Mrs Mackintosh has words of wisdom to any hopeful competitors.

“One of the things the owners have to do when racing is place your dog at the start line, then you have to run to the finish line to greet them at the end,” she said.

“You have to get there really quickly which is a lot of fun. If you don’t want to be that energetic, my advice is to have someone with you, so you have a person at the beginning and someone at the far end.”

It will be the first time the fair has run since 2019, and this year drops its old name of the Highland Field Sports Fair.

This year’s programme on August 5-6 is jam-packed and more diverse than ever, officials claim.

The traditional main ring activities and displays are back, from birds of prey demonstrations to gundog and fishing demonstrations.

The Fair will also feature an array of activities for children.
