Heavy snow has forced the cancellation of trains on the Kyle Line.

The 8.55am Inverness to Kyle service, which was due into the Lochalsh villager at 11.31am was forced to terminate at Dingwall due to heavy snow further west.

Following its cancellation ScotRail has also confirmed the cancellation of the 10.56am Inverness to Kyle service, the 12.08pm Kyle to Inverness journey, and the 1.46pm Kyle of Inverness train.

ScotRail has also warned that no bus replacement options will operate on those journeys due to the severity of the weather.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: "Due to poor road conditions also. we have no alternative road transport in place for [these cancelled trains], passengers should postpone their journey until conditions improve."

At the time of writing, later services on that line were not showing as cancelled, although this could change and passengers are being urged to check for the latest travel updates before setting off.

The latest disruption comes amid widespread travel chaos in parts of the Highlands, with buses, rail and ferries all being impacted on Thursday. Some roads were also closed, such as the A836 Lairg to Tongue route in Sutherland.

And the Met Office this morning extended the active yellow warning for snow into Friday, amid forecasts of further snowfall before milder, stormy weather hits the region in the form of Storm Bert at the weekend.
