A NAIRN youngster is hoping to raise £1000 for charity after donning her tartan for a fundraising walk.

Eva Morrison (6) was among the thousands of people who took part in Scotland’s Virtual Kiltwalk to raise money for various charities.

She walked more than six miles to raise money for the Morning Call and Visiting Service, which provides befriending services for older people in the Highlands who are lonely and isolated.

Eva, a pupil at Cawdor Primary, was joined by her mum Nadine, who is the charity’s co-ordinator, her sister Angel Morrison and brother Josh Coull, both aged 13.

Mrs Morrison said Eva was aware of the charity she works for and wanted to do something to help.

“She said she would like to help older people and so we got her signed up for the Kiltwalk,” Mrs Morrison said.

“Originally, she was going to walk five miles but it was longer than that.”

The family walked from their home in Sandown Farm Lane along Nairn’s west beach to a bothy and back.

Eva raised £700 in online donations but hopes more will come in.

Every penny she raises will be topped up by 50 per cent thanks to Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation.

Mrs Morrison said: “The donations for Morning Call and Visiting Service allows us to continue to have volunteers and to provide support for our clients across the Highlands.

“It will help us so much.”

Meanwhile, former Highland League footballer Colin MacLeod did a 30km Kiltwalk from Drumnadrochit to Inverness raising at least £900.

Mr MacLeod (46), of Muirtown, did his walk for the Oxygen Works which uses oxygen therapy to treat people with various conditions at its base in Burnett Road, Inverness.

Another Inverness-based kiltwalker, Kerry Holland, walked 18 miles in memory of her brother Kyle Robertson in support of the Leanne Fund.

Set up in 2009 in memory of Leanne Mitchell from the Isle of Lewis, it supports young people affected by cystic fibrosis.
