An online survey has been launched in a bid to help prioritise targeted improvements to one of Scotland’s deadliest roads.

Kate Forbes MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, said there needed to be public agreement on the next steps for improvements.

The A82 trunk road – which runs from Glasgow to Inverness – is the subject of an Inverness Courier campaign A82: Make it Safe, which the MSP has given her support.

Since 2017, more than 20 people have lost their lives through accidents on the A82. There have been a spate of serious and fatal accidents in recent weeks.

Ms Forbes, whose constituency includes the majority of the A82 said she will use the survey results to lobby for realistic and evidence-based upgrades.

“It’s widely accepted that the A82 is in need of further investment and upgrade work,” she said.

“In the last few years, some of the worst spots have seen improvement. Other stretches, like Tarbet to Inverarnan, are scheduled for significant investment.

“While there are many calls for investment in the A82, I am asking for the different stretches to be prioritised in order of need. People who drive on the road on a regular basis will know some of the best and worst bits, and that is the purpose of this survey.”
