Inverness bridge punch leaves victim with double fracture of jaw
An upsetting remark towards a teenage boy walking across an Inverness city centre bridge with an adult companion prompted a violent response.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 35-year-old Darren Jamieson, of Rosehaugh Road, Inverness asked Ian Devaney what he had said to the boy and then punched him in the face.
Fiscal depute Pauline Gair told Sheriff Gary Aitken that it wasn't until a couple of days later that the victim sought medical attention after the May 18, 2024 attack on the Greig Street Bridge when he was having difficulty speaking and eating.
Mrs Gair said that Devaney had sustained a double fracture to his jaw and other mouth injuries. Two metal plates had to be inserted and held in place with metal screws, she added.
"It was six weeks before he could eat properly and the recovery time was estimated at six to nine months," Mrs Gair went on.
Jamieson admitted assault to severe injury and permanent impairment and had sentence deferred until June 17 for a background report.
