STAFF at Culloden Battlefield are asking whoever has been setting off fireworks, to stop.

In a social media message, the team at the historic site said they were urging anyone in the area to not let off fireworks, and be mindful of the environmental impact.

A spokesman said: "We are finding quite a few discarded fireworks at the entrance to the battlefield site (as in this picture).

"We would urge anyone in the area not to let off fireworks or discard them in this way. Please spread the word so that this message reaches whoever caused this litter #litterbug

"Remember, we have conservation grazing animals, wildlife and many dogs and their owners who regularly enjoy walking the battlefield. Any litter on the battlefield should be avoided because of the risk of fragments being ingested by these much loved and cared for animals.

"Please respect our battlefield.

"It is a very special place for us all.

"Thank you for your cooperation and for sharing this, especially if you live in the area."
