THE oldest person in Inverness has died aged 107.

Menzies Graham, of Falconer Court off Huntly Street, was also the seventh oldest person in Scotland.

A widower, he lived independently and did his own shopping. He also attended the Methodist Church in Huntly Street every Sunday as well as its Wednesday coffee morning.

The minister, Rev John Beadle, said people were often surprised on discovering Mr Graham’s age and despite his age, there was still a sense of shock at the news of his death.

"The congregation will miss him greatly as he was such a regular," he said.

"You never assumed he was 107 and you just thought he would keep going on until he was 110 or 111.

"He was always bright and alert and took an interest in what was going on in the news.

"He was proud of how old he was but was such a modest man and a very private man who wanted no fuss whatsoever.

"He was a remarkable man."

Another acquaintance described him as a wonderful man who was "well respected, always very well dressed and a pleasure to know".
