Inverness young bakers TV appearance takes the biscuit

An Inverness primary school pupil ‘met’ one of her favourite TV personalities when she was asked to bake along with him on children’s TV favourite Blue Peter.
Eleven-year-old Lois MacLeod was invited onto the hit show to make a mouthwatering chocolate orange-infused shortbread.
The P7 Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis pupil appeared alongside fellow Scot Peter Sawkins (20), the youngest ever winner of The Great British Bake Off during a show to celebrate Robert Burns.
Lois, and two other young bakers from Edinburgh, were filmed at home, cooking along.
“It was fun,” she said. “I picked up baking in the last lockdown, and I learned to make lots of things like cookies and I even made a cheesecake for our family Christmas meal.”
Lois, who lives with coeliac disease, said she was particularly inspired by Peter as he too was known for his “gluten free” baking.
“I enjoy baking gluten free things like scones and cupcakes because I can then eat them as well,” she said.
“I was diagnosed as having coeliac disease when I was eight, and I am very careful about what I eat especially after I made the mistake of once eating something that was not good for me. So it is so nice to have someone like Peter who knows what it is like not to eat wheat and he is also a baker.”
Lois, who lives in Resaurie, said classmates watched her on TV and so did her brothers Samuel (7) and Benjamin (4). She has several Blue Peter badges, including a baking one.
Her dad Alasdair said: “It was very exciting for all the family that Lois was on the show. She is a keen watcher of Blue Peter.
“She filmed live, after two hours of rehearsals during the day.
“Although Peter wasn’t able to speak to Lois, or the others, baking with him was fab.
“We think she did very well and her brothers found it very funny that she was standing in our kitchen, but live on the TV at the same time.”
