An Inverness woman is on a mission to ensure people suffering from hair loss are supported and given the best of care.

Beverley Macdougall (41), who runs Highland Trichology, supports people who are losing their hair or suffering from scalp conditions.

She is also the only Highland-based wig fitter for The Little Princess Trust, which provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years old, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

In 2024, she collected Scotland’s hair loss clinic of the year title.

The mum-of-two said: “I have been impacted by hair loss since I was a kid. I trained in law but always said I wanted to help people, so I got into it in my mid-30s.

“I just decided it was the time to go for it. I trained as a hairdresser and a fully registered trichologist and was approved to provide NHS wigs.

“When I had my first child I lost hair and when I had my second I was prepared for that, but not for how much I would lose.

“I understand the confidence that people’s hair gives them and I just want to support them in their journey.”

Beverley was ‘absolutely shocked’ at receiving the accolade at the Scottish Beauty Industry Awards.

She explained: “I was not expecting to win at all, so when they were announcing the winner of the category I was recording so I could get the reaction of someone else.

“When they did announce my name I was just blown away! I have goosebumps even talking about it now.

“It was so lovely to have Inverness represented at the awards.”

Part of Beverley’s mission is enabling people to feel like they are getting a salon visit, rather than it being ‘clinical’ if they have already spent lengthy times in hospital.

She said: “I love helping people. I’m a big believer in passing on positivity. The job is about making people feel good and giving them confidence.”

If she could tell people one thing, it’s that some hair loss is temporary while other times it is permanent.

She explained: “Sometimes it is down to our diet, stress or products we are using.

“But if people are losing their eyelashes, eyebrows or the front of the hairline is receding then you need help now.

“We can’t reverse it, but we can ensure the hair stays longer.”
