Inverness teenager struck man with traffic cone on Nairn High Street and assaulted another a few days later

An Inverness teenager carried out two assaults on different people a few days apart.

Cameron Young (19) repeatedly punched a man on the head, struck him on the body with a traffic cone and grabbed him by the body on July 20 last year in Nairn High Street.

Young also repeatedly pushed the same victim against a window, dragged him to the ground and continued to punch him on the head while he was lying down.

On the same date at in Nairn High Street, he repeatedly kicked the disabled button for an automatic door.

In a separate incident on August 2, last year, he threw a wheelie bin into a garden in Ashton Road, Inverness and repeatedly shouted and swore and uttered homophobic comments.

On the same date at Tesco Extra, at Inverness Shopping Park, Young shouted and swore at two people and assaulted a man by running towards him and punching him on the head.

Young, of Wimberley Way, Inverness, pleaded guilty to assault and threatening and abusive behaviour.

Sheriff Robert Frazer ordered him to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work and pay £500 in total to both of his assault victims.

The sheriff said they suffered nasty injuries.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said: “He is a young man who was trying to be independent and relying on negative associations as support.

“He has now moved back home and is remorseful and accepts full responsibility.”
