Inverness teenager appears on CBBC show and says ‘never let anyone tell you what you can or can’t accomplish’
An Inverness teenager has starred in a BBC children’s show.
Sophia Walsh (15) was the star of Dog Squad which aired on CBBC this week. The show is about a group of assistance dogs with superpowers who complete mission for their owners.
Speaking about the experience, Sophia said: “It was a tremendous experience and I was really lucky to get the part. The day itself was unforgettable, I had loads of fun on set and off.”
Sophia has a form of cerebral palsy which affects all four of her limbs, and leads to muscular discomfort when she has to sit for long periods in a conventional wheelchair.
For her appearing on the TV show means that thousands of children are able to watch her and see what she is capable of.
She added: “My favourite part of acting is learning lines and becoming different characters even just for a while.
“Acting is a brilliant way to become a different person and learn about an entirely new world.”
Although Sophia doesn’t currently have any auditions, she is hoping to get some soon and continues to train with Performers UK in Inverness, who have been a big support to her.
But she does have a dream show she would love to star in.
She said: “My dream show would be Mallory Towers, I would love to see the set and meet all the cast members.
“Mallory Towers is a great television show and it's my absolute favourite.
“That is what inspired me to become an actress and I want to inspire others, and prove that whatever obstacles come your way, you can always find a way to get round them and never let anyone tell you what you can or can't accomplish if you put your mind to it.”
