Inverness-shire adventurer to welcome Queen to Scotland

Inverness-shire adventurer Tom McClean is to help welcome the Queen to Scotland today.

Mr McClean will supervise the gun salute at Edinburgh Castle as Her Majesty arrives for a summer spell at Holyrood Palace.

The ex-SAS and paratrooper gained fame for numerous feats of endurance including staying on the island of Rockall from May 26 1985 to July 4 1985 - asserting the UK's claim to the mid-Atlantic island.

He was also the first man to row across the Atlantic solo from west to east in in 1969.
