A SUTHERLAND woman caused around £15,000 worth of damage while breaking into a Primark store in Inverness after being “triggered”.

Amber Nicolson (23) threw a large rock into five panes of glass at the Bridge Street store in the early hours of October 24, 2021.

Once inside the clothing store she then upturned a large display of electronic till equipment causing further damage.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that each large pane of glass was worth £3000.

Fiscal depute Karen Poke told the court: “This happened around 4am.

“CCTV showed the accused arriving at the front of Primark and throwing a large rock at the front door.”

Nicolson, of Earls Cross Road, Dornoch, had admitted the theft by housebreaking and wilfully and recklessly damaging property when she appeared at the court previously.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said his client was a single waitress who had “been in distress” after a friend was involved in a medical emergency and taken away in an ambulance – leaving her with no way to get home.

Mr Gowans said she was now receiving support and that it was out-of-character behaviour for her.

Sentencing Nicolson, Sheriff Mark Stewart said: “This is clearly an out the ordinary set of circumstances. Clearly on this evening something triggered you to act in this way.”

Nicolson had her sentence deferred for six months to be of good behaviour.
